A horrifying act of violence shocked shoppers at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan on Saturday evening, July 26, 2025. According to authorities, a 42-year-old Michigan man entered the store and began a random stabbing spree, injuring at least 11 people.

The incident took place around 4:43 p.m. near the self-checkout lanes and spread throughout several aisles of the store. Witnesses describe scenes of panic and chaos as the attacker moved quickly, targeting unsuspecting shoppers.


Suspect Apprehended

Thanks to the quick response of both customers and Walmart staff, the suspect was subdued and restrained before police arrived. Traverse City Police Chief Melissa Perkins confirmed that the man was taken into custody without officers firing a shot.

“We are deeply grateful to the brave citizens who acted fast. Their actions likely prevented more injuries,” said Chief Perkins during a press briefing.


Victims Hospitalized, FBI Joins Investigation

All 11 victims were transported to Munson Healthcare Hospital, where six remain in critical condition and five are listed as serious but stable. The names and ages of the victims have not yet been released.

The FBI has joined the investigation, although officials state there is currently no evidence linking the attack to terrorism or organized crime. It is being treated as an isolated act of violence.


Governor Responds

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

“My heart breaks for the victims and their families. We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide all support needed.”
